A reference volume reprinting research studies from a wide range of academic journals
Scientific interest in meditation has grown strongly in the past few years, as has popular interest and support from the medical community.
Among meditation programs, the Transcendental Meditation technique has the longest history of scientific research, since the first publication in Science in 1970. The Transcendental Meditation program, founded by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, has been learned by over six million people worldwide.
Because this body of research is very holistic in nature, addressing psychological, psychological, and sociological effects, hundreds of studies are scattered throughout more than 150 scientific journals. This volume is the seventh in a series of reference works that gather these research studies, and corresponding review papers, so that they can be easily accessed by interested students and faculty.
This volume covers the time period 1997–2005, containing 81 papers from 116 researchers at 50 universities in 12 countries. This brings the total number of papers in the seven volumes of this series to 605. The front of the volume contains a list of the full set of papers and their findings from Volumes 1–6 of this series, and ends with an author index covering all seven volumes.
An introduction to the volume is followed by eight major sections of papers, each with their own section introduction: Metabolic, Biochemical and Cardiovascular Changes; Electrophysiological and Electroencephalographic Changes; Health; Intelligence, Learning, and Academic Performance; Development of Personality; Rehabilitation; Productivity and Quality of Life; and Theoretical and Review Papers.
Published in The Netherlands at the end of 2013, this volume is now available for immediate shipment within the United States.
